Bar Class Reflections

Describe the lesson you taught.

"I teached them how to play the guitar, it was challenging teaching them all at once, next time I would like more guitars. I learnt that I am like a teacher"

".First we taught them the basic like bowling and batting. We had a bowling practice first. They got to have 6 bowls each then they each had a turn at batting. But if they made a mistake we would teach them how to do it properly.After we finished the basics we played a game of cricket.we played on the field next to the hall.

Reflect on the lesson you taught

The enjoyable thing was we had fun doing our arts and carfts and there were heaps of smiles on our visitors faces. What was challenging was cleaning up the work and running out of glue. What i could've done was get enough glue sticks for the glue gun so it won't run out. What i learned was that teaching something about your culture can be fun and interesting.

Teaching them was fun because it gave me something to do and they enjoyed it.
It was hard teaching them and it was hard to teach Shayden how to dougie becuase his leg kept going right up. So i concentrated on his hands and body instead.
I learnt that everyone learns things differently - what i found easy, they found hard.

I found it easy but they were finding it kind of hard. I learned that its good to teach people something that they don't know.

I liked seeing them have fun on the computers.

The enjoyable thing was teaching people and being able to connect with them.

Should we use bar-class in our regular class schedule?

Yes because it would give the teachers a rest. Sometimes i am put in a group and told what im learning. It would be nice to choose.

I think kids should teach other kids to do math and reading
and writing.

yes because i learn from them better because i feel more relaxed around them.

i would like that because when you are with other people they talk about other things but teachers just only talk about what we are learning...

Yes - Because it will be really good for your friends because they will be able to listen more often.

This would be better because we could choose what we wanted to do and sometimes kids are better at teaching each other because we help each other and understand each other.If we didn't get something we could ask the teacher and then go back and teach each other...

yes because its nice learning from other kids and if i think that they have a done a good job i could let them play.

I like being taught by other kids because we can chat about other things at the same time.

I would like to be able to choose what i do. you shouldn't always have to stay in the same group and learn what the teacher wants you to.

Bar Camp Reflections

We have been having a Bar-Camp in Room 12 over the past two weeks where we have been putting on workshops and teaching each other new skills.

We put the name of our workshop on a chart and then we are allowed to go to which ever one we want to. We have had cool choices. Teach me how to dougie, change a tyre, side-stepping touch rugby, island art and gaming.

Tomorrow we are looking forward to Taiaha, more touch skills, choreography to the Lion King and wood-carving with real tools!

We use this form to design our workshops.

This week we are all practicing very hard for our cultural performances that will be performed at our school's 50th Jubilee this Saturday. While we wait for our practices we are writing making and will soon start filming our animations. We have I Can Animate on one computer and we will also be trying to use the cameras and imovie apps on the ipad.

We tried out planning on page 34 or the Making Clamation in the Classroom e-book that we downloaded for free.

Our stories are ranging from renactments of the three little pigs, the opening ceremony, and even a horror story about a dark shadow!

BMPS News Week 8!

RWC Perspectives

This week we have been discussing how different people see the same things differently.

We are exploring this in the context of the Rugby World Cup opening ceremony. Some of us were at Eden Park, some were in town, some didn't watch it at all and some were at home watching it on TV. We are writing stories and making movies illustrating our different experiences. We are also busily making an Eden park display with QR Codes. We will post pictures soon. In the meantime check out our imovies and puppetpals interpretations of this historic event.

Bart was angry as a bull. Ralph went around saying duck and Bart had a crooked crown and they have a huge house a giraffe Bart yelled out with angry eyes he said ''say gose you stuipid freek!''

There was Bart looking angry and annoyed from the game. His cheap paper crown with celloteap to hold it up on his head was crocked . As Ralph repeatedly went around the circle saying '' duck duck duck duck ''. he said it over and over until Bart lost his temper and yelled out to Ralph,
''say goose you stupid freak!!'' then Ralph 's feeling's get hurt and he runs out crying

It was Bart's birthday. They played duck duck duck goose. It got to Bart. Bart was sitting angrily. He was annoyed he shouted in a loud angry voice "say goose you stupid freak." Because Ralph just kept saying "duck duck duck". Ralph ran home with tears on his face.:D

Face with boredom as Ralph goes on and on saying duck, duck, duck.
Bart feeling rage inside of him, his cheap looking, little purple crown hanging
crookedly on his little yellow head.

Fat little Ralph is still going round and round hitting every bodies heads
still saying "duck, duck, duck..."
Bart still sitting there more and more anger pouring into his mind.

Ralph is near Bart getting closer and closer still saying "duck, duck, duck..."
Ralph nearly hits Bart on the head until suddenly,
"SAY GOOSE YOU STUPID FREAK!!!"
Shouted Bart with so much anger that poor little Ralph gets so scared that tears
fill up in his eyes.
As he runs away crying like a baby (what a crybaby)
every body just sits there silenced.

Seeing Bart sitting on the floor with a deep frown on his face and his cheap looking crooked crown. "Duck, duck, duck" hearing Ralph with his high - pitched squeaky voice. Ralph gets up to Bart DUCK! "Say goose you stupid freak" shouts Bart. "waaa waaa waaa" Ralph waddles off like a penguin crying as if waterfalls were coming down from his eyes.

In the Simpson cartoon Bart is having a party. They're playing duck duck goose
but Ralph is not saying goose. All he's doing is running around in circles
tapping them on the head saying 'duck'. Bart is getting really frustrated and angry the

"Say duck you stupid freak!" and Ralph runs away in tears

AND Ralph ran crying to the door slammed the door very hard. His family woke up because the door was slammed.

While Ralph was saying duck, Bart was very angry at Ralph. I think he even wanted to murder Ralph too. So when Ralph patted Bart's head Bart said "Say goose you stupid freak".

Then when Bart said "Say goose you stupid freak!" just for like five seconds Ralph just started crying and he ran away...

A quiet afternoon in a small neighborhood full of DUCK DUCK DUCK but no goose.
Waiting for Ralph to say goose,the people that are playing know that this game wasn't a good game to play besides no games are good to play with Ralph unless he's playing with Casper.

The only good game to play with Ralph would be hide and go seek because you can run straight away from him and he won't even know.

All of Bart Simpson's family came and now they are sleeping. This was a bad idea. A few hours went by and Bart get so frustrated that he screams out of nowhere
"OH SAY GOOSE YOU STUPID FREAK!"
Ralph's tears flows down like a water pipe has just cracked open out his eyes and then the teary Ralph runs out in tears.
I bet you every one's happy that he left

The door squeaked open and inside was Boos toys. Boo give the toys to Kitty she was happy. Kitty said
"Come here you!"then they went to the bed
"Kitty has to go now"
Then kitty leaves and Boo gets out of her warm light pink bed. Boo opens her closet and says "boo" but kitty was not there and boo's face is a sad sad face.

Hearing the screeching door opening,Kitty looks directly at Boo in a sad kind of way. Suddenly,Boo gets so happy that she runs through her room, picks her well known toys and passes them to Kitty and Kitty says,
"Oh that's cute!"
While Boo picks another toy and squeezes it, Kitty says,
"That's very nice."
A few minutes later, Kitty carefully tosses the toys on the ground and picks Boo up saying
"Come here you."
They both laugh together in joy and happiness.
While Kitty tucks Boo in her warm pink bed,Kitty Says....."Kitty has to go now."
Boo points to her closet where they first met each other and then Kitty said
"No-ones coming out of your closet to scare you anymore."
Knowing Boo's sad face, Kitty gets it too.
His big blue eyes get watery and then he leaves her room through the closet.
Boo can't bare not to see Kitty again so she jumps out of her bed, goes towards her closet, and says "BOO."
But kittys not there.

As kitty wriggled the handle of the door it opened with a squeaky noise.
As soon as Boo saw her room she ran in squealing, looking around and then retreating to pull her friend kitty into her room.

Boo ran around her room picking up her toys and giving them to Kitty,
"oh that's cute, that's very nice!" were Kittys compliments on Boos toys.

Kitty ditched the toys on the floor and picked up Boo saying,
"COME HERE YOU!":) They both started laughing and Kitty tucked
Boo into her bed and they smiled at each other.

Then Boo pointed to her door and said something in her high pitched baby talk
and then pointed to the door.
"Nothings coming out of your closet to scare you anymore."
"Kitty" said Boo
"Kitty has to go." Kitty replied.
Boo stood up in her bed and embraced Kitty.
They stayed like that for a while and Kitty's big blue eyes were turning all watery with tears of sadness.

He finally stood up and went to the door-before leaving he looked back at Boo with even more sadness than and then turned back around and left.
When the door closed Boo got up and and ran to the door (she thought it was a joke)
and opened the door and said.........BOO but he wasn't there.

I strongly believe that the once-ler should not be allowed to chop down trees.Because it is harmful to the people who live there, and it causes pollution and there will be no oxygen.

Firstly it is harmful to the people who live there can you imagine if somebody destroyed your property? You won't have food and shelter because it has been taken away.

Secondly it causes pollution. Do you think it is alright if your lake, river or sea was polluted? You could probably die! Pollution makes water poisoness and yucky.

Thirdly there will be no oxygen because trees provide oxygen and with no oxygen you will die.

Therefore i strongly believe that the once-ler should NOT chop down trees Because it is harmful to the people who live there, and it causes pollution and there will be no oxygen.

This happened by me playing soccer on Friday.It was from me standing on the
soccer ball and falling over and landing on.It is badly bruised and the nurse told
me that it was broken too.She said that one of the bones had a crack in it.My dad
was very sad because i have basketball for my school next week and he was looking
forward to seeing me play.I have to have the cast on for 4 weeks.

I believe that the once-Ler should be allowed to cut down the truffula trees.This is because the Thneeds make him rich.It makes more space in the land and it will make more useful stuff.

Firstly the Thneeds make him rich, because some people need thneeds to keep them warm and comfy.The thneeds are nice around cozy,warm fire's.

Secondly, I think that if there were more space in the land the Bar-ba loots can play more game, and there would be some more space to make a road for the cars to drive along.

Finally, the Thneeds make alot of useful things like paper,jumpers,jackets,pajamas,scarfs,rain coats,and all sorts of useful things you can think of.

There fore I strongly believe that the Once-ler should be allowed to cut down the truffula trees because the Thneeds make the Once-ler rich.There would be more space in the land, and the Thneeds make more useful things.

I strongly believe the once-ler should not cut down the trees. Its because the barbaloots will have no shade, no food and also not enough oxygen.

Firstly the once-ler should not cut down the trees because the barbaloots will have nothing to eat and will have to leave the land. Also food helps us to survive.

Secondly because the barbaloots wont have any shade. Trees give us shade to protect us from the sun. If there were no shade we would have sunburn and the worsts SKIN CANCER!!! which you could die from.

Thirdly because the barbaloots wont have enough oxygen. Oxygen helps us to breathe. If the trees were cut down the barbaloots wont be able to breathe properly.

Therefore I strongly believe the once-ler should not cut down the trees because there will be no food, no shade and also not enough oxygen.

I can prove that Mr Onceller should be aloud to cut the trees down because he can give the barbaloots space,donate money to the hungry barabaloots and NO-ONE CAN STOP HIM

Well,Firstly I can prove he should cut the trees down because he can give the barbaloots space,for example,if he wasn't aloud to cut the trees down,the poor barbaloots would bump into nearly every tree and be hurt.

Secondly I believe that the Onceller should be aloud to cut the trees down because he can make heaps of money for his family and if he has some money left,he can donate the money to the hungry barbaloots.For example if he was not aloud to cut the trees down,his poor family and the poor barbaloots would have to look for their own food.


Finally i strongly believe that Mr Onceller should be aloud to cut the trees down because NO-ONE CAN STOP HIM



Conclusion
Therefore I have proved that Mr Onceller SHOULD CUT THE TREES TO MAKE THNEEDS

We looked at this blog where the students wrote arguments about the Lorax. We are trying this out ourselves.

This is Mele's argument, she is arguing that the Oncler should be able to chop down trees. She is nearly finished it and is working on her conclusion

Have a read:

I really believe that that the once-ler SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO CUT DOWN TREES.
This is because he is helping other people who need thneeds. When he cuts down the trees it helps makes the houses which provides shade and privacy and there is no law against it!


Firstly, I TRULY believe that the once-ler should be allowed to cut down the trees because

if he didn't then there wont be any thneeds for the people and they would get cold and very

sad. For an example if there was winter and the people had no clothes to wear they would get very very sick and may end up in the hospital!!!

Secondly people think that the trees provide shade and shelter. Well that is true BUT when we cut down the trees then we can make them into houses which provides shade and also provides privacy!!! My point is that if we all lived under the tree then it will provide shade but no privacy

and that would be very very embarrassing, and if it was raining it would actually go through the trees and make you wet and that is my point.

Finally I STRONGLY believe that the once-ler should be allowed to cut down the trees

because IT IS NOT AGAINST THE LAW! So since it is not against the law then that

means he is not doing anything wrong therefore he should be allowed to cut down the trees!!!

therefore i believe that the once-ler should be allowed to cut down the trees because
he is helping other people, he is helping to provide shade and privacy and
it is not against the law!
what if you had no money and had to look for a job and finally you found one but
people keep on criticizing you?
would you like that?
people are just trying to make money here! what is so bad about that?

Today we tried the World Cafe approach to learn about Reducing, Reusing and Recycling

In the world cafe we gott into groups of 4-5
Answer questions on the big piece of paper
After two minutes the oldest or youngest kids had to swap
Then the blue hats had to swap
Then the hair-tie people had to swap

When we swapped we shared the information we got in the other group.

Google Doc Madness

We have been working with Google Docs for a couple of weeks now. They are cool because when you are on google docs you can chat to other people while you are working.

If you write something it saves really fast by itself so you dont lose your learning.

You can let people into your document.

You can add to it anywhere with internet we have been doing it at our parents work, at home, at the internet cafes in town, and at the library and out our Aunties house. Mrs TJ can see it on her phone too!


We have been sharing our doc with our friends in Australia. They asked us some questions and now we are making a new doc about stories from our cultures.

We are working in the tent. It is hot inside, but it helps us to concentrate because we dont get disturbed by what other people are doing.

We are going to shoot our news show from the tent so that there are no distracting things in the background. We wonder what the sound will sound like.
