Our Blog

We are a year 5/6 (9-10 year olds) class from Bairds Mainfreight Primary School in Auckland, NZ.

You can see some of our learning that took place in Room 12 in 2010 and 2011.

NB: I have moved to a new school now so this blog is no longer active. You are still welcome to comment and look at the great fun we had over the past two years.

Thank you for all the lovely comments :)

World Cafe ReDuce ReUse ReCycle

Today we tried the World Cafe approach to learn about Reducing, Reusing and Recycling

In the world cafe we gott into groups of 4-5
Answer questions on the big piece of paper
After two minutes the oldest or youngest kids had to swap
Then the blue hats had to swap
Then the hair-tie people had to swap

When we swapped we shared the information we got in the other group.
(by Wiremu)

We learned:

Reduce
having smaller showers
walking to school
going on a boat instead of a plane
Use a blanket instead of a heater
Bike instead of car

Reuse

Use a tyre to make a swing
Wear hand-me-down clothes
Make a car our of a box
Use glass jar to save money in
Use glass jar to keep pens in
Use scraps to make compost
Get a long cylinder can as a piggy bank
Turn real hair into a wig
Reuse icecream containers as lunch box

Recycle

Put recyclable material into the recycle bin
Recycle the good parts of old computers
We discovered we had questions about recycling:
What do they do with the glass?
What do they do with the plastic?
How do they recycle petrol?
How can we recycle water?
