Our Blog

We are a year 5/6 (9-10 year olds) class from Bairds Mainfreight Primary School in Auckland, NZ.

You can see some of our learning that took place in Room 12 in 2010 and 2011.

NB: I have moved to a new school now so this blog is no longer active. You are still welcome to comment and look at the great fun we had over the past two years.

Thank you for all the lovely comments :)

should the onc-ler chop down trees

I strongly believe that the once-ler should not be allowed to chop down trees.Because it is harmful to the people who live there, and it causes pollution and there will be no oxygen.

Firstly it is harmful to the people who live there can you imagine if somebody destroyed your property? You won't have food and shelter because it has been taken away.

Secondly it causes pollution. Do you think it is alright if your lake, river or sea was polluted? You could probably die! Pollution makes water poisoness and yucky.

Thirdly there will be no oxygen because trees provide oxygen and with no oxygen you will die.

Therefore i strongly believe that the once-ler should NOT chop down trees Because it is harmful to the people who live there, and it causes pollution and there will be no oxygen.

Easi-speak mics

We are so excited and lucky because our easi-speak mics arrived today. It is taking us a while to get used to them but we have found that they will help us to have better sound on our news. There are heaps of other things that we will be doing with them as well... If your school has done something cool with them please let us know!

Never Shake a baby

Today in Roots of Empathy we learned to Never Shake a Baby. Tanya showed us why by shaking an egg in a jar. We learned that a baby's brain is like the egg yolk. If you shake it, it gets damaged. By Emma

Room 12 News

22 Feb 2009

23 Feb 2009

Reflections:

Wiremu and Logan. Our voices were clear. We needed to manage ourselves better so that it made more sense.

Sarah and Julia. We wrote a good story. We need to speak louder.

Mele and Mereana. We think we need to speak louder. It was sad that there were people not listening propery in the background.

Siaga and Emma. Siaga had a good loud voice. We both need to look at the camera.

More Oral Language

Today we practised presenting to the webcam. We are going to use our footage to reflect upon:
  • what we are already good at
  • what we can do to get better

"Wonderful background here. You have managed yourselves very effectively and the results speak for themselves!"

"I love your pony-tail. That must have been very hard to do with a touch-pad mouse!"

"Fantastic eyes - a great use of the paint shape tool!"

"Fabulous hair and fabulous Mainfreight M!"

Beautiful sky effect! Fantastic teeth!

Here are some of our self-portraits using Microsoft Paint

Research Skills - Sharks

Some of us saw JAWS on TV so we decided to research Sharks. We are making 'mini research projects' using SMARTboard software. We are looking for facts about our chosen shark's habitat, food and enemies. We are also learning to add animated gifs to our presentations.
