Our Blog

We are a year 5/6 (9-10 year olds) class from Bairds Mainfreight Primary School in Auckland, NZ.

You can see some of our learning that took place in Room 12 in 2010 and 2011.

NB: I have moved to a new school now so this blog is no longer active. You are still welcome to comment and look at the great fun we had over the past two years.

Thank you for all the lovely comments :)

Art intensive learning.

Shannon finds a how-to-sketch programme (he found ferns and kiwis)

Yesterday we learned to use chalk before we paint, because when you paint over pencil you can still see the lines but when we paint over chalk it melts.

Today we were researching on the computers for kiwiana symbols. We enjoyed looking at the beautiful pictures and symbols of kiwiana. We saw Hokey Pokey ice cream, Pavlova, Kiwi fruit, Kiwi, L&P bottles, gumboots, jandals, buzzy bee, rugby ball, pohutakawa trees, marae, paua shells and the NZ map.

We found a movie on how to draw a kiwi, and how to draw a silver fern.

We learnt how to make cold colours and warm colours in our dye wash. The warm colours were red and orange and the cold ones were blue and green.
